Meet Dixie
Having started her legal career at a large, full-service law firm in Dallas, Texas, Dixie Newnam co-founded Newnam Land in 2007, bringing big-firm experience to a small firm. Since that time, she has focused her practice primarily on clients who are individuals, small to medium sized businesses, local governments, and non-profits. She enjoys being able to bring her attention to detail and strategic analysis skills developed during her big-law training to clients who are looking for the flexibility and individual attention a small firm provides.
Dixie earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Baylor University in 1997, graduating cum laude with a major in telecommunications and a minor in business administration with an emphasis in accounting. In 2002, she earned her Juris Doctorate, with honors, from the University of Texas at Austin. She started her legal career at Haynes and Boone LLP, in its commercial litigation section, and practiced there until she started Newnam Land LLP. In addition to her private clients, from 2008 through 2018 she represented the Board of County Commissioners for Las Animas County, Colorado as the County Attorney.
Dixie is licensed in both Texas and Colorado. She is a current member of the Texas Bar Association and belongs to its Business Law and Real Estate, Probate, and Trust Law sections. She is also a member of the Colorado Bar Association and is a Colorado Bar Foundation Fellow. As a member of the Colorado Bar Association, she held positions on the following Bar committees and boards: Executive Director Search Committee (2014), Joint Management Committee (2010—2014), Joint Budget Committee (2008—2010), and Board of Governors (2007—2009). She was also a member of the Colorado Judicial Performance Committee for the 3rd Judicial District (2011-2015).
When not working on legal matters, Dixie volunteers for various local organizations, and serves on the Board of Directors for the Wimberley Valley Chamber of Commerce and Wimberley Valley Radio (KWVH)—where she co-hosts a weekly radio program that explores all things tech. A certified yoga instructor, she enjoys studying not only the physical aspects of yoga, but also the philosophy, and brings the lessons learned there into her everyday life.
Dixie is married to Robert Land, her life and law partner. They have two vibrant children, of whom they are incredibly proud, a dog who thinks he is a cat, a real cat who is a destructor of headphones, and bearded dragon named Steve.
